a word from the author.

You would want answers too if you had washed ashore on a strange island inhabited by old friends and acquaintances as well as strange new creatures never seen before. This is where I find myself, on a journey through a new and different life experience, full of surprises and mind-blowing revelations.

November 1-30, 2004 marks this year's National Novel Writing Month, or "NaNoWriMo." To mark this event Blogger has created Na-No-Blog-Mo, a site to encourage bloggers to put their creative talent to the web, rather than the page, in the form of a serialized blog. As someone who considers himself to be a frustrated creative writer, I thought that this would be a perfect way to get myself motivated to actually write something I've wanted to put together for a long time.

I've been working on the f0/_d off and on in various forms since my Junior year in high school, way back in 1992. The story encompasses many elements of my waking life as well as dreams and ideas that have felt as important as anything I've experienced in this reality. Part autobiography, part metafiction -- the f0/_d is a very important chronicle to me, of what is and what could possibly be my life, and I hope others enjoy experiencing this journey with me.

The part of the story I've chosen to highlight for this project takes place smack in the middle of "The Great Epoch," the biggest chunk of this epic whole. The Isle of Seven Ages may conjure up images of fantasy and science fiction, and I'd be lying if I said the story didn't incorporate those genres, but it's much more than that. It has drama and romance, suspense and mystery, and even comedy in some places. It's a metaphysical and existential representation of a subjective reality and life viewed through my own eyes, a trip in which I'd be more than happy to welcome the company of readers to experience it along with me.

If you are interested in seeing other stories I've written for the f0/_d, you can view them here. Keep in mind, however, that those parts are not in context, and my not even be in order yet. You can still read them to get an idea of the places I plan on taking this tale. Thanks for reading The Isle of Seven Ages, and I look forward to your comments and input.

Sincerely,
Evan M. Parris, author and illustrator

(11.10.2004: I've realized that attempting to illustrate each chapter will consume too much of my time at this point. Therefore, I'll just keep trying to write the actual content and come back at some point after this month to do the illustrations. However, if you want to see what they may look like, you can check out a few I've done for my works in progress.)

(Although many characters are based on real people, some events have been fabricated or exaggerated for dramatic effect. Any similarities between actual events and other people, real or fictional, are purely coincidental.)
